Whether relaxing with a coffee while soaking up the stunning scenery or fuelling the lively après-ski till the early hours is your idea of fun, then this is the place.
Good For:
- Glacier Skiing
- Self Drive and Accommodation Only Options
- Non Skiers
- Lively Nightlife
Beginners
Although traditionally not a beginners’ resort, Chamonix provides some gentle nursery slopes within walking distance of the town at Planards, where 33 snow cannons have been installed. Chamonix does have limited beginners areas but one of the central nursery slopes is actually behind the Neilson Red Mountain Lodge chalet. There are also plenty of other activities to take part in if you fancy a day off the slopes.
Intermediates
With over 40 intermediate runs in the Chamonix Valley providing trails, mogul fields and opportunities to try off-piste skiing and snowboarding, you should make speedy progress and find plenty of exciting challenges to test your improving capabilities. One thing to look out for whilst skiing or boarding in Chamonix is the way it grades its slopes, a red really is a red and lower intermediates may find them a challenge.
Advanced
Ideal for the expert skiers looking for mountain adventure, Chamonix has some of the longest, steepest and most challenging skiing in the Alps. It attracts extreme riders from around the world. Limitless off-piste, ski touring, powder chutes and gullies, not forgetting the incredible, awe-inspiring run down the Vallée Blanche with a mountain guide.
Snowboarding
Chamonix is not the ideal resort to learn to board but it is has great challenges for intermediate and advanced riders. The resort is famous for its off-piste which seems endless, with many steep chutes and couloirs that test even the best riders in the world with lots of natural half-pipes and jumps. Additionally Chamonix also features terrain parks and a half pipes for those freestyle spirits.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med. Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.
