Independent Walking Holidays in beautiful Andalucia - only £425 per person (8 days)

Self Guided Walking Holidays in Andalucia, Spain with Walk Andalucia.  Our self guided tailor-made walking tours are ideal for people keen to walk independently, who like to enjoy the real Spain, and prefer to have the organisation and research of their walks taken care of, but do not want the chore of repacking and moving on each day.

For those of you who would like to intersperse your walking with more cultural activities, we will be happy to arrange for excursions to one of the many beautiful cities in the area for example to Granada, Ronda or Malaga. We can also arrange car hire for the day, if you would like us to do so. Our single centre self-guided holidays include all of these benefits, and our flexible pricing enables you to choose dates which are convenient to you – for example why not come for “a long week-end’’ from Thursday to Monday.

Everthing you need for your Andalucian Walking Holiday
In order to assist you to complete the walks you are provided with guide sheets together with explanatory notes, and personal itinerary so that you can follow well defined paths. We always choose interesting walks with lots to see and your guide sheets will draw your attention to the things we don’t want you to miss. You will also have the backup of our experienced guides, Dave and Gill Armstead, who will be available in case of need.

The real Andalucia
We are based in Torrox Pueblo, an historic Moorish village just four kilometres from the coast. Our guests stay in traditional village houses, which have been both sympathetically restored and furnished with all modern conveniences: The townspeople boast that they enjoy "El mejor clima de Europa" - the best climate in Europe, and they could be right!

We are anxious that you relax and enjoy your evenings, and we promise good local food and wine at friendly restaurants that look forward to welcoming our customers.

How our Self-Guided Walking Holidays work
Before your departure we consult closely with you to ensure that your holiday is tailored to your individual requirements.

Your programme will be based upon your own personal preferences. We offer a large number of walks ranging from introductory to challenging depending upon your choice!

We meet you at Malaga Airport and transport you to the village house where you will be staying

We provide detailed route descriptions for each day’s walk including details of wildlife, flora and fauna, history and culture.

We provide detailed maps and a compass.

We arrange to collect you from your house and transport you to the start of each walk and we will collect you at a prearranged time and place (usually an interesting village, country inn or bar) at the end of each walk.

Visit Granada & the Alhambra Palace
We believe that a visit to Andalucia is not complete without a visit to Granada to see the Alhambra Palace and Courtyards. The design and structure to be found here are, beyond doubt, the finest examples of Islamic architectural art to be found outside of the Islamic world. The perfection of the architecture, the detail of the faience mosaic and the complexity of design features are unequalled. That so much has remained and in such remarkable condition is a testament to the quality of the craftsmanship and to the dedication of those who have sought to preserve these historic complexes.

Visit Cordoba
Cordoba was founded by the Romans and due to its strategic importance as the highest navigable point of the Guadalquivir River, it became a port city of great importance, used for shipping Spanish olive oil, wine and wheat back to Ancient Rome. The Romans built the mighty bridge crossing the river, now called "El Puente Romano". But Cordoba's hour of greatest glory was when it became the capital of the Moorish kingdom of El-Andalus, and this was when work began on the Great Mosque, or "Mezquita", which – after several centuries of additions and enlargements – became one of the largest in all of Islam.

We will be happy to arrange excursions to Granada, Cordoba or Ronda at an extra cost of around £45 per person.

Other places of interest include:

Cuevas de Nerja
-  one of the most beautiful caves in Europe with impressive formations of stalactites and stalagmites.  They are a short walk from Nerja and the Parador at Nerja serves good coffee with lovely views (and loos!).

Ronda  - a town situated in the Sierras, has been described as one of the most romantic towns in Andalucia.  The town is perched on top of the Tajo Gorge and is full of history.   Don’t forget to visit the La Casa del rey Moro (The Moorish King’s House).  Mondragon Palace, also known as the Palace of the Marquis of Villasierra, is also not to be missed.

Malaga is Spain’s fastest growing city and there is a wealth of museums and architectural sites – well worth a visit.  Don’t miss Picasso’s birth place, the new Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba or the Museum Municipal.  More information on this fascinating city is available at www.andalucia.com/cities/malaga/mainsights.htm.

Frigiliana
is the neighbouring town in the Hills.  Ana Medina and David Riordan offer Frigiliana Tours every week day at 1000 and 1230.  Frigiliana has been a preferred location to live for thousands of years and has an amazing history. The village has won numerous awards for beauty, architecture and such, including the first place national award for beautification in 1982 (www.frigiliana.com).
