Description

Skiing Holiday - Kitzbühel / Kirchberg, Austria with Neilson.  The Kitzbuheler Alps ski area stretches from Pass Thurn, via Kitzbühel to Kirchberg, which is now also linked to Westendorf, part of the Ski Welt region, putting these resorts in the heart of one of the largest linked ski areas in Austria.

For mixed ability groups, they are the perfect destination. Beginners will find the attentive ski schools fill them with confidence to tackle the many blue runs, while intermediates are simply spoilt for choice.

The historic town centre of Kitzbühel has something for everyone. Its cobbled streets, lined with attractive traditional buildings, make it a beautiful place to stay. Inside its medieval walls, there are unlimited shopping opportunities, numerous cafés and restaurants, and in the evenings a bustling nightlife in the many bars and clubs.

A convenient and somewhat quieter alternative to the ‘Glitz of Kitz’ is neighbouring Kirchberg, situated 6km away. Although it may not have quite the same glamour, it does offer great quality hotels, convenient access to the fantastic ski area and good value.

Good For:
 - Ski Leading
 - Family Resort
 - Self Drive and Accommodation Only Options

Beginners
Kitzbühel’s nursery slopes are situated at the foot of the Hahnenkamm where the excellent Red Devils ski school offers superb instruction. Kirchberg also has a first class ski school offering tuition during those tentative few days on the wide open nursery slopes by the Gaisberg and Maierl chairlifts.

Intermediates
The extent and variety of red and blue runs is unbelievable. The Kitzbüheler Horn slopes are a great place to start from, with several long runs back to resort. The connection between the top of the Hahnenkamm cable car and Pengelstein is easily managed giving access to a variety of long, beautiful runs.

Advanced
There are a number of steep black runs to choose from and some great off-piste skiing. The most testing terrain is found underneath the Zweitausender chairlift where a north-facing, deeply mogulled 500m drop will certainly test the thighs!

Snowboarding
Snowboarders have a great area to explore. Some of the best freeride slopes can be found around Fleckalm and Pengelstein – ideal for high speed cruising, while across the valley the Kitzbüheler Horn offers a variety of gullies, a fun park and weather conditions permitting, a half-pipe, boarder cross and rail.

About Neilson

We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med.  Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.

A Game On Ice - Curling – it’s like bowling but on ice. It’s a game which can be played by any age or ability. Join the locals and take a stroll to the local curling rink to try out this somewhat crazy sport! Have A Gourmet Flutter - Visit Kitzbühel’s casino for the evening and enjoy a gastronomic feast in one of the casino’s affliated restaurants. If you’d rather not have a flutter you can still spectate at the highly charged roulette table. Leave The Crowds Behind In A Hot Air Balloon - One of the most serene ways to view the mountain region. A ride in a hot air balloon is a fabulously peaceful journey from peak to peak. A Refreshing Way Down The Mountain - Kirchberg’s 3.5km long toboggan run is open until 10pm. The Gaisberg lift takes you up the mountain and then it’s time to take a seat and slide all the way back down. A couple of cosy, slopeside mountain huts provide refreshments on the way down. Clock Up The Mileage - As well as easy access to the 160km Kitzbuheler ski area, a new gondola connects Kirchberg to Westendorf, part of the 250km Ski Welt area. Kirchberg is now firmly on the map as a gateway to one of Austria’s super-sized ski areas.
