High Altitude, glacier skiing
Kaprun is a charming, picturesque village, 10 minutes by free ski bus from Zell am See. It provides visitors with easy access to the snowsure Kitzsteinhorn glacier, situated a 15-20 minute bus ride away. The panoramic views from the observation deck at the top of the cable car station are stunning and not to be missed. On the outskirts of the village, the smaller ski area of Maiskogel is served by a gondola and best suited to beginners and intermediates. Although the resort centre is smaller than its neighbour, Zell am See, it offers a good choice of bars, restaurants and shops and some surprisingly good nightlife for a village its size. Resort facilities include a bowling alley, sports centre, plus lots of other activities on offer.

Beginners
The small area of slopes on the Maiskogel mountain are easily reached and are best suited to beginners and early intermediates, and there is also a separate nursery area. The well-run ski school has English speaking instructors who will soon be leading you to the blue runs at the top of the glacier!
Intermediates
The new 24-person gondola, which leads up to the glacier area, is 6km from the village and served by a regular ski bus. From here you can reach a height of 3029m and experience some amazing skiing and spectacular views. The Europa Sport ski pass also covers skiing in the nearby Zell am See - a total of 130km of pistes.
Advanced
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier will provide the advanced skier with some exhilarating and challanging runs, as well as plenty of powder. Or head over to Zell am See for the challenging black runs leading into the village.
Snowboarding
This area is ideal for snowboarders of all abilities. It has hosted several competitions in recent seasons, there is a terrain park on the glacier and some excellent natural half-pipes. Be warned, the glacier has a large proportion of drag lifts.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med. Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.
