Description
Skiing Holiday - Saalbach / Hinterglemm, Austria with Neilson. Saalbach and Hinterglemm are attractive villages sitting side-by-side in the heart of picturesque Salzburgerland. They offer quick access, via an impressive lift system, to a large, well-linked ski area known as the ‘Ski Circus’. With over 200km of runs, it is one of the best-suited areas for keen intermediates who will struggle to cover every run in a week. Both villages are largely traffic-free making wandering between tempting konditorei, cosy stuberls and lively bars a delight at the end of the day.Après-ski is buzzing straight off the slopes and later on in the bars and clubs in both centres, although Saalbach is generally livelier than its neighbour. For non-skiers, there are many snow-cleared paths for scenic walks, a variety of resort activities on offer and day excursions to the beautiful city of Salzburg. Charming resort centres, quality accommodation and a fantastic variety of runs to explore make this area one of our favourites.

Beginners
Both areas provide good facilities for the beginner. Saalbach’s two nursery slopes are situated in the heart of the village centre. Hinterglemm’s spacious nursery slopes are located at the edge of the village. The south-facing side of the valley has the most blue runs for beginners to progress on to.
Intermediates
This area is a paradise for the intermediate skier. There’s plenty of mileage to cover and plenty of long, flattering blue and red runs which wind their way down to the valley floor. The north-facing side of the valley offers some more challenging runs, including some relentless reds from Schattberg West and Zwolferkogel. An all-time favourite is the long cruise down to Leogang.
Advanced
With over 200km of marked pistes, even expert skiers will find all the skiing they can handle. For those who like it tough there are a number of difficult red and black runs particularly on the Zwolferkogel. For some fun off-piste, guides are available.
Snowboarding
This extensive, well-linked area is a snowboarders’ heaven with a wealth of interesting terrain to suit all ability levels. There are two snowboard parks offering jumps and ramps for more advanced riders as well as a huge choice of long red and blue runs for people who just want to cruise.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med. Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.
