Description

Skiing Holiday - Niederau / Oberau, Austria with Neilson.  Niederau and Oberau are small, picturesque villages situated in one of the Tyrol’s prettiest valleys. Wide, nursery slopes in the village centres and first-class ski instruction make them perfect for beginners. The ski school continually receives excellent feedback for its professional, friendly service, and its awards evening at the end of the week with live music from the ski instructors’ band is not to be missed.

The compact village centres close to the slopes, the gentle, rolling runs and specialist children’s ski instruction make them a great destination for families too. Niederau’s rustic village centre has a handful of shops, a supermarket, plus several cafés and restaurants, while Oberau is smaller, centred around a pretty church.

Evenings are relaxed and informal – these are not lively resorts but a few cosy stüberls and bars sometimes offer live music and there are three discos. We cannot recommend them highly enough for beginners and families.

Good For:
 - Child Lift Pass Offer
 - Ski Leading
 - Family Resort
 - Learn to Turn Resort
 - Quiet Nightlife
 - Self Drive and Accommodation Only Options

Beginners
Niederau and Oberau are ideal resorts for beginners with wide nursery slopes extending down into the village and excellent English-speaking tuition provided by the ski schools. The Neilson Skier’s Pack Level 0 is ideal for beginners and includes a lift pass, equipment, tuition and end of week ski races if you want - see ski pack info for more details.

Intermediates
The Wildschönau lift pass covers a good selection of open easy and intermediate runs at the top of the new Markbachjoch gondola. Skiing from the Lanerkopfl includes a long red back to the village. Auffach is also included in the pass, opening up more reds. All the villages on the lift pass are linked by a free ski bus.

Advanced
A little limited for the advanced but offers a few red and black runs plus off-piste skiing opportunities, while Auffach offers some powder possibilities above the tree-line.

Snowboarding
Not much for the advanced, however, an excellent resort to learn. Auffach has a half-pipe and snowboard park for the more experienced freestyle boarders.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece.  For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med.  Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.
